How Can Current Digital Marketing Trends Help the Entrepreneur?
Online marketing has changed a lot over the last few years so what worked for you last year might not work for you this year. One of your jobs as an entrepreneur is to keep up with this change. Your ability to create leads comes down to building trust and intimacy with those who need you the most and convincing them you are the most relevant choice. This might be overwhelming though. Consequently, in this blog post, I will discuss ten current digital marketing trends and what they mean for entrepreneurs.
Number 1 of current digital marketing trends: relevancy wins the war
Apparently, it is no longer about collecting the most email addresses or leads. Those with the biggest lists used to dominate their niche but now, people begin to crave greater intimacy and relevance. If you want to increase your profit this year, it is not about creating more leads but about building greater intimacy and relevance with the leads you have. You have to provide the right solution, to the right people, at the right time.
Getting personal with your customers is increasingly more necessary but also easier. There are so many tools and social media platforms out there that can help you get in touch with your leads and show your human side.
Number 2: attention is the new currency
If you are not capturing the right attention, you lose your ability to compete without spending massive amounts of money on advertising and other online marketing. Attention is becoming increasingly more expensive as more businesses have easier access to it. That means it is more important than ever to make the most of the attention you capture. People are overwhelmed with messages so if you CAN capture their attention, you almost automatically capture their loyalty and wallet.
That goes back to number one: you need to send out relevant, high-quality messages to the right people at the right time. Again, there are so many tools and social media platforms that can help you so you can make this work.
Number 3: video content must capture people’s attention
If you are going to create content for social media, there is definite value in incorporating video into your strategy. In the past year, social media platforms have altered their algorithms to favor video content. You have to be creative and come up with engaging video content.
One tactic that beats news feeds and provides long-term value for your business is Facebook Live events. Facebook Live events notify all of your followers to attend the live event and you can save the video for future views.
Number 4 of current digital marketing trends: be top of mind
Omnipresence is not about appearing everywhere to everyone because this is both expensive and pointless. Rather, the point of becoming omnipresent is to appear in front of those leads who are most relevant to you and to whom you are most relevant in return. This combination of omnipresence and relevance leads you to be top of mind. It ensures your audience knows, likes, and trusts you. Building trust is more important now than ever!
Number 5: one platform is not enough
If you think dominating a single platform is enough, think again. Your leads on Facebook are not on YouTube, and those on YouTube are different to those reading Business2Community.com. As such, the key to your success is to repurpose your content across multiple (relevant) platforms. You can easily repurpose a single video into a blog post, an in-depth article, a podcast episode, and additional resources. In turn, you can repurpose this content into an email series, social media posts, and micro videos.
Number 6: your marketing funnel has evolved
You need to turn your marketing funnel into an experience and build real, significant trust. Scarcity and countdown timers no longer work. Instead, you need to feed your audience with relevant content at the right time, based on their current level of awareness and engagement.
Number 7 of current digital marketing trends: focus on the invisible ROI
It used to be enough to focus your ad spend on lead generation and sales. Now, however, you need to focus on brand awareness. That is not to say creating new leads is not important. It is. However, you must also nurture your audience rather than simply selling to them. Become the “go-to” expert they need. If you only focus on lead generation, you will continue to see your ad spend rise while your conversions go down.
Number 8: get ready to consume in virtual and augmented worlds
Virtual reality will be the most transformative technological advancement of our generation. Social media platforms have already started to adopt VR/AR into their algorithms. Virtual and augmented reality is seeping into people’s everyday lives. It is only a matter of time before brands figure out how to take advantage of these advancements. If you are an entrepreneur with a tech company, this may be an opportunity for you. For other entrepreneurs, this may still be out of reach due to a lack of funding or knowledge.
Number 9: voice search will change the SEO industry
How do you market to devices rather than humans? Entrepreneurs should be prepared to answer this question. The future of search is going to be through voice and searchable devices. In other words, our devices will have the capabilities to search for information that we ask. However, we are no longer going to be at the helm of the search queries. Devices will retrieve information based on our preferences and by learning our tendencies.
As an entrepreneur, you will need to figure out how to build applications to the devices. The importance of organic content-writing on websites will become less valuable to consumers because the in-home device will be retrieving the information and serving it to the user.
Number 10 of current digital marketing trends: development will start with a mobile-first approach
Mobile and tablet usage continues to increase. Entrepreneurs will have to find ways to optimize the user experience of a brand on mobile devices. Today, there is more mobile traffic to sites than desktop. One should use this data to drive one’s design and development strategies.
As consumer behaviors shift, so should the thought process of entrepreneurs. Pay attention to people and understand behavior. If you can understand and predict the way people are moving, you can develop strategies and make decisions that are driven by data rather than by intuition.
